Live Fish Trade Issue

Live fish trade is one sub-category of the trading that pertains to food fish that are being
served in the dinner table. It is also referred to as for aquarium type of fishes that are being
sold in bulk. Countries that contributes most with the live fish trading industry comes from
the Southeast Asia where coastlines are located and fishes are abundant.
The fish trade refers
to a global system which links fishing communities to markets. Though the live fish trading
industry gives ample food source for many countries, it is being opposed by non-government
organizations that are very concerned with the nature. They found fishing a cause of
destroying coral reefs under the sea.

South Pacific coral reefs has been regarded as “rainforest of the sea” for there are plenty of
fishes that can be found in the deep of the ocean. Every species are there, large or small,
living and swimming freely inside their kingdom. But a negative issue about the live fish
trade is becoming more and more popular due to its hazardous effect on marine life. Because
too many coral reefs are being brought up from the deep, the natural habitat of most fishes are
now becoming smaller which results to endangerement of their species. This can be really
ecologically alarming because some fishers uses cyanides that are being injected in the coral
reefs to make fishes inhabited.
Though it is understandable that live fish trade cannot be stopped, they should follow rules
and regulations in regards to fishing techniques. Dynamite fishing is still popular nowadays
even if the bills are created which are against dynamite fishing. In that way, baby fishes are
not only affected but also other marine animals that should not be caught. The right technique
that is being taught for modern fishermens is placing limits on the catch and choosing specific
species that are abundant in the season. With that, baby fishes can grow maturely until they
are ready to be caught and reproduction will also be allowed. Another regulation that is set is
separating endangered fishes that are accidentally included in the catch and putting them back
to water.
Protection of live fish is very important to make sure that the next generation can still see the
natural beauty of the world in due time. As well as good food source, they still need to
experience eating fishes that are entirely popular eversince.In the case of other marine
animals, lobsters are a perfect example of an extinct specie. Today, anyone is banned to catch
them and take care of them as a pet. This are also done for some specific live fish specie
especially those that are being caught to use as aquarium fish pet. Live fish breeding is also
prohibited because this uses a non-natural method of reproduction. Every marine animal
should be reproducted on their habitat using the natural reproduction method. The live fish
trade can be really helpful in some ways but if its effects dominates the bad side, then this
should stop as early as possible.
